Day 1 John O’Groats to Reay

Actual distance 49.74Km or 30.91 miles

Total Ascent 402m

We’ve started!

We got to John O’Groats around 10:20 and managed to leave, having taken the obligatory photos/ video with the sign by 11.

The weather was kind and we managed to make good progress posting almost 50km- not bad for a first day! There we certainly some teething problems (lunch break with no lunch, a bag of apples left on the roof of the car for 15km and one puncture) but overall a really encouraging day, as long as the next 58 are similar………

The whole team did a great ride and there are certainly some aches and pains but a lovely curry whipped up by Niall has done wonders!

We are very grateful to the 1st Wick scouts for hosting us last night and the 2nd Thurso scouts for hosting us today- amazing stuff!

2 weeks to go…..are we ready?

NO!

There is still loads to do including finding accommodation in a few places (including Liverpool- how bizarre!), finish buying the kit, think about supplies plus we are finishing the Mini Woggle JOGLE- the 1:100 scale local walk!

Soon on this blog there will be details about each day of our journey including a huge thank you to our daily hosts (when we have them!)

We had loads of time but it disappeared somewhere……

Is there enough time to get everything done……Of course- how much time do we need to complete the planning and logistics for a major adventure with a 9, 11 and a 14 year old?!

We did our traditional birthday walk up the ltchen today- the older two of us decided walking to Winchester (8.5miles/ 13.7km) wasn’t enough so we walked back (another 6miles/ 1okm) to a pub for a very tasty dinner.

Training requires good nutrition and motivation!

Another exciting day for the JOGLE team- we were interviewed during the One Community slot on Unity 101 Radio Station! It was great, if a little nerve racking , to share our message and we must say a huge thank you to Lisa-Jane for making us feel so at ease with our first interview. Incidentally, Ollie was the youngest person Lisa-Jane had interviewed on air and he did a fantastic job of promoting our epic summer fundraising mission. If fact he did such a good job we got invited back to tell them how we did after the summer!

Its a super exciting day today as the amazing team at Outside and Active have featured our amazing adventure on their website! This is massive step forward for us in publicising our adventure so we can share it beyond the realms of social media and reach others who might be interested and want to support us!
