It was very difficult to wake the children up this morning. All 3 were very asleep and not loving the idea of getting going. Despite this we still managed to be up and ready in time to meet Stephen and Louis (Bethan’s uncle and cousin), and Mike (who kindly hosted us a couple of nights ago) and his dogs who all joined us for our walk along Gatescarth Pass today.
Gatescarth Pass provided spectacular views over Haweswater and down towards Kendal, as well as having a couple of lovely waterfalls. We ambled slowly up to todays 585m peak along the very stony path, whilst Ollie ignored the path and scrambled up the banks like a mountain goat. Hattie’s ankle was still playing up today, but despite this she managed brilliantly. Walking with others is such a lovely boost and we are very much looking forward to more and more people joining us over the coming weeks.
John was waiting for us at the end of Gatescarth Pass with our bikes so we could continue on todays journey down into Kendal on 2 wheels. We said our goodbyes to the rest of the group leaving them with John so he could chauffeur them back to their cars.
The road down to Kendal was mainly downhill, making for a very pleasant ride. We did have to detour from our planned route when we realised it once again would have led us through a field, but quickly found a new way through. We made it to Kendal in really good time, and were even able to fit in a good rest and a Costa whilst waiting for John to pick us up! By the end of today we had completed over 800km in distance and 12km in ascent since our journey began – utterly amazing!
This evening we are really pleased to have James back with us! A massive thank you to Niall for driving him back up here today.
We are spending this evening at Great Tower Scout Campsite and arrived just in time to join in with their weekly campfire. It’s the first campfire that we’re danced ‘the Macarena’ at, but was really good fun! We have hopefully managed to spread the word about our adventure to several of the groups who are also camping here at the moment. We would be so grateful if you could help us to spread the word about our fundraising efforts as far and wide as you are able.
