Day 3 – Bettyhill to The Crask Inn
Actual distance 51.7Km or 32.13 miles
Total Ascent 616m
Staying with the 1st Tain Scout Group
A great day today! Day 3 we thought might be difficult but the team rose to the challenge and despite the Scottish summer managed to do approximately 40km by 14:00. In fact the team were so fast today that Phil (who set off an hour and a half later having taken one of the support vehicles to the probable endpoint) had to ride for 29km on his own trying to catch up the main group! Following a coffee and a defrost we pushed on and conquered the highest peak yet maxing out at 265m.
We found out the James does an impressive sheep impression and then played Sheep or James which was actually really difficult and very entertaining and may be coming to a social media Chanel near you soon!
We briefly left Jennie and Hattie in the support car to be interviewed by BBC Radio Solent’s Carl Ralley (available here from 2:11) before being joined by them at the Crask Inn with their new owners and Maggie, a beautiful Tibetan Mastiff who stole the hearts of our entire team!
A long drive down to Tain followed as we were stuck waiting for a lorry to be rescued but we eventually made it to the warm welcome of the team at the 1st Tain.
